Rooftop landscaping holds many benefits, especially to companies like this one. Apartments on William provides safe and comfortable accommodation to youngsters from out of town, enrolled to study at tertiary institutions in Pretoria.
The student life in this city is a constant hustle and bustle – as young people discover their feet in the world, whilst earning a tertiary education. Safety has become a major concern, with many parents living in other locations, trusting that their children are staying in a safe environment that’s conducive to both studying – and a little student life fun.
Rentals 4 Students addresses every aspect of student accommodation. Not only is it delightfully upmarket, but it’s also close to all the major bus routes and basic amenities, being in the lovely suburb, Brooklyn. It’s a new facility, so it is still in the process of accepting new applicants. We have been involved in its establishment for the past year, ensuring their landscaping is tip top!
Being for young people, the accommodation has to cater to their social requirements. This means maximum use of space, with outdoor facilities for relaxing and entertaining. An apartment building is potentially a challenge in this regard, as there is no garden, as such. We made use of the only outdoor space available to us – the rooftop, by installing superlative rooftop landscaping. Braai facilities, colourful pots, artificial turf and the elevated views of the surrounding town make it spacious and comfortable.
Naturally, getting the materials for the installation of the rooftop landscaping, when the job is this large, can be a challenge. We had to utilise tower cranes to hoist the materials up. Igneous concrete products (custom made pots) were hoisted up – as you can see they’re large! They’re also special because they’re made from igneous concrete – which is lightweight and environmentally friendly.
We also opted for water-wise plant species in order to minimise maintenance and keep the place looking fresh as a daisy, even when it’s hot and dry. We also incorporated a drip-irrigation system, a hands-free means of watering to keep the plants thriving. Our brightly coloured pots, which we mentioned, add a trendy appeal to the decor, going with their contemporary look.
It’s been a great year working with the teams from other companies to complete this project. We will still be visiting, as we are doing three months of maintenance following each phase of the project. We can’t wait to see what interesting people and colourful personalities occupy this trendy space!
